On 8 January 2008, AachenMünchener will commence the construction of its head office in Borngasse on the corner of Franzstrasse in Aachen . Together with the existing two-part building, the new construction complex will unite the staff of AachenMünchener Lebensversicherung AG and AachenMünchener Versicherung AG at a single location and bring the integration of the two companies which started back in 1999 to a conclusion. Until now, staff have been spread over several sites in Aachen . “The new construction will once again reinforce the collaboration within the company and is also a renewed clear commitment to the location of Aachen ,“ says AachenMünchener, Chief Executive Officer Michael Westkamp.

Four buildings and two underground car parks are being constructed in a first and second construction phase in the heart of Aachen 's city centre. The overall investment comes to some €100 million, with the second construction phase accounting for around ten percent of this. The core of the new building complex will comprise a building with up to seven floors which will contain the new main entrance to AachenMünchener. The company's new address will then be AachenMünchener Platz 1. A boulevard will serve to integrate conference rooms, a staff restaurant and a cafeteria and will link all office areas of the new construction with the existing building on Aureliusstrasse. The complex will have capacity for around 1000 workstations. The second construction phase on Franzstrasse is intended for renting. As has been communicated several times, construction is subject to the economic precondition that enough tenants are found. The number of offices will depend on the wishes of the tenants.

An outside staircase will provide a direct thoroughfare from the main station to the city centre. The park being developed at the corner of Franzstrasse and Borngasse will round off the construction complex in a harmonious manner. “The buildings, the small public park and the thoroughfare from the main station to the city centre via the staircase will significantly enhance the urban landscape," says Aachen 's mayor Dr. Jürgen Linden. “This building underlines the company's commitment to the city of Aachen.”

The new construction comprises the realisation of the concept of Aachen-based architect company kadawittfeldarchitektur, which was awarded first prize by the prize jury. In the opinion of the prize jury, this concept will enhance the cityscape. It also meets the high requirements of AachenMünchener in terms of transparency and functionality. An umbrella consortium consisting of partners Alpine Bau Deutschland AG and Beaujean Fassadentechnik GmbH has been awarded the contract for construction.
